Speed Tech’s “Quickie”, is a true self locking coupling that provides quick one-handed operation for applications where short connect/disconnect time of pressurized systems is of the essence.  

It is composed of three major structural elements: a flanged aluminum coupling body which contains a captured, pressure resting O-ring and eight ball bearings; a flanged aluminum coupling sleeve which slides over the body and holds the interior ball bearings in place; and a stainless steel filtered coupling stem which inserts into the body on one end and attaches to the pressurized nitrous supply bottle on the other end.

When assembled, the flanges on the body and sleeve are held apart by the interior spring. When the two flanges are manually forced together, the ball bearings in the body are allowed to retract into a ball-race in the sleeve. The stem, which has a matching ball-race, can then be inserted. When pressure is applied to the system, the stem is forced slightly outward, which causes the ball-race to move and restrict the balls from moving outward. For purposes of maximum safety, this feature is to prevent accidental disconnection of the coupling while under pressure.
